💭 Logical fallacies often function as an easy way out of discomfort for those who exploit animals. They are strongly linked to the root cause of this oppression: the degrading belief that humans are entitled to exploit other animals. When this belief is embraced by the majority, it becomes easy to find “arguments” that sound reasonable and legitimate but are, in reality, nothing more than:

• Logical fallacies
• Arguments that concern the implementation of the vegan principle in practice (for example, fully plant-based nutrition)
• Arguments that are completely irrelevant to veganism.

📢 It is important to remember that veganism is simply the ethical principle that humans should live without exploiting other animals. This is the original meaning of the movement as defined by the original Vegan Society pioneers, which has since been surrounded and diluted by opposing ideas — something that also helps fuel these logical fallacies. For example, many people who claim to be vegan misrepresent veganism as a minimum-suffering or harm-reduction effort. This, in turn, invites tu quoque fallacies and straw man arguments, because this is not the point of the vegan stance. Veganism opposes the commodity status of animals and their use, not a perpetually grey, hypocritical position focused on killing and harm.

👉 To put it simply — it is much easier to come up with seemingly rational objections to veganism when those objections are not actually about veganism. To argue against veganism is to argue for the status quo in which other animals are reduced to resources, slaves, and objects for use.
